Digg Goes to Band Camp

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Sphinn, Digg

Let me start by saying the title of this post says “get up”, not “get it up”.  I want to be real clear as the latter would likely have a negative affect on my standing with the ladies.  Don’t deny it girls.  You know it would be a problem.  Since that’s cleared up, what in the heck am I talking about.  I will tell you if you give me just a minute.  Settle.

Digg is a jungle man!  It reminds me of high school on steroids in that the popular kids get to have all the fun and to decide what is cool and what isn’t.  The funny thing is though, it’s the geeks that are popular in this world and they are lovin’ it.  Post something computer related and the geeks flock to it like bugs to a bug zapper.  Then they set there and giggle while the unsuspecting servers of the world get zapped and end up as stinkin’ puff of smoke.  What a life.

Post something good or something that smells a little like SEO (a lovely smell indeed) and forget it buddy.  They give those posts the same courtesy the hot girls have given them for years.  And believe me, they know it well.  It’s like those posts don’t even exist.  Like the only people who recognize their true beauty are the band geeks (copywriters) and they just aren’t the same.  [Side Note: After watching American Pie I realize that apparently I should have paid a little more attention to some of the band geeks that showed potential.  At a minimum I could have gone to band camp and given it a shot.]

So what is an SEO to do?  Start brushing up on Apple, Ron Paul, Halo 3, Linux, and hot chicks.  [Side Note: If it weren’t for the internet these Diggers wouldn’t get to see 1% of this stuff.  At least not from anyone that looks decent.]  And now back to answering the original question; SEOs can always take up with the band geeks or just move it on over to Sphinn.  Afterall, if the Diggers won’t let us play in their game then we will just start one of our own.

New Focus for this Smokin Site

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: News

There’s a new sheriff in town around these parts and that means some things are going to be done a little bit differently around here.  I’m just yankin’ your chain.  Same sheriff, new direction.  It just sounds better to say it the first way.  So what’s up you say?  I have just updated the ”About Smokin’ Sevens” page and thought I should post those updates here since it is likely nobody reads that page anyway.

New Direction for Smokin’ Sevens:
“Thank you for checking out Smokin’ Sevens.  As official owner, editor, and writer of this blog, I would like to thank you for stopping by.  This blog initially started as a site offering top seven lists that were intended to be funnny and/or informational.  It was basically an experiment at link baiting, social media testing, content testing, and more all wrapped into one.  Those tests have run their course; so now what?”

“As time has gone on I have decided to take a slightly different tack as this blog moves forward.  It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what that direction will be, but I think it is safe to say it will remain along the lines of being entertaining and informational.  In case you can’t tell from the paragraph above, I am in to the world of internet marketing from top to bottom.  As a result, this blog will likely take on elements of that world.  In the beginning I hid those aspects (probably unsuccessfully) so that the testing could stand on its own two feet.  Now topics such as SEO, PPC, domaining, internet marketing, link building, and link baiting will move to the forefront and become the primary areas of focus for this blog.  I realize this is a crowded field already, mainly because I read a number of good blogs that exist on these topics, but I will try to find a voice that will be worth hearing.  Oh, and don’t think for one minute that I won’t get completely off target at times.  Just ask my wife; she will tell you this happens more often than not.  Wish me luck and thanks again for dropping by.”

If You Don’t Get Into Domaining Now, You Will Hate Yourself Later

Think I’m wrong?  Take a look at this summer’s sale of business.com ($345 million) and seo.com ($5 million).  Check out Frank Schilling’s post on the upcoming Moniker.com auction coming up in early October.  Those names are set to go for some pretty good numbers.  Want in on the action?
