I came up with a quote the other night.  Here it is, so chew it up.  It’s nice and short.

Life is humbling. – Jason Barrett

The Bruce Lee Movie

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Random Thoughts

Are you interested in a good movie?  I was just reminded of a good one that I haven’t seen in a long time.  It is Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.  It’s a great movie, a great story, and a reminder of a great tragedy.  Check it out if you haven’t seen it.

I’m Red Sox’d Out

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Red Sox

I apologize to all you Red Sox fans out there, but I am sick of your team.  I have no ill feelings towards the team or the players on it.  My problem is more with the media and all the hype they keep giving your beloved Sox.  Enough already!  I look forward to the day they fall off the radar and you all go back to whining about not winning.  Enjoy it while it lasts because these kinds of things never last forever.

The Hunted

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Random Thoughts

Have you ever felt what it is like to be hunted?  I remember reading The Most Dangerous Game while going through school and it made me think, but that is about it.  Then I got in to playing paintball and it became much more tangible to feel what it is like to be hunted.  What a rush!  I can see why some people get hooked on the game.  I can also tell you that I have a much deeper appreciation for the men and women in our Armed Forces.

My heart got to pounding.  My mind was as quick as it has ever been.  My vision was incredible.  My hearing was at its best.  I was closer to the ground than the grass itself.  I noticed the tiniest bit of elevation changes.  A tuft of grass all of a sudden becomes “cover”.   A wall of twigs breaks up my silhouette and breaks up the incoming shells.

So have you ever been hunted?

Write It Down or Lose It Forever

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Random Thoughts

I am sure this goes without saying, but if you don’t write down your idea as soon as you have it then you will surely use it and it will be lost forever.

Ask me how I know.

Recommended Read – Arcadia

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Book Recommendation

If you are looking for a good read, then I recommend grabbing a copy of the play Arcadia by Tom Stoppard.  This play contains lively intelligent dialogue, a good story line, an interesting approach, and several other reasons to keep turning the pages.

Good play Tom.  I read it back in college and I just finished reading it again.  I enjoyed it.  Thanks.

Writer’s Block Cured by National Geographic

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Free Association

I thought I would hop on to Smokin Sevens tonight and put together a post, but the post seems to be staying out of site.  It seems I have a classic case of writer’s block.  So here’s what I am going to do.  I am going to write about what I can see.

I just happen to be watching National Geographic right now and let me tell you that what I am seeing is a little disturbing.  There is a pack of hyenas eating a wildabeast while it is still alive.

There is also a lion that is sick with something.  It’s got a bunch of fly-infested sores and it can’t stand up.  Vultures are starting to circle.  They’ve hit the ground waiting for the impending death.  Hyenas have taken notice of the vultures and the lion’s time is running out.  The hyenas are on the way.

Night falls and the lioness is surrounded by the hyenas.  The laughing and jeering can be heard for miles.  The hunter has become the hunted.  We must wait.  The hyenas grow impatient.

Cliffhanger!  What happened?  I don’t know because it’s commercial time.  I’m going to bed and I am not sure the ending is that important anyway.  I found something to write about.  I wrote.  You read.  Formulate your own conclusion.  It won’t kill you.

Reflection from a Mile Marker

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Reflection

Personal mile markers are scattered along everyone’s road of life.  These mark important events that define who we are and build the lens through which we view our world.  Each life has the typical markers that come with the same consistency as the seasons in Kansas.  On the other hand there are markers whose timing is not timed well at all, yet they give off the greatest reflection.

Do we notice when these items arrive?  Likely, yes.  A better question here is do we see these times coming?  Sometimes yes and sometimes no.  That being said, if we do see them coming then why do we ignore their significance?

Undisclosed Emotion

Written by: Written by Jason D. Barrett.  Filed under: Poetry

Raw emotion rips through the air.

Water overflows the banks.

Its source is known only to one.
